The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air celebrates 30 years since its premiere with an unrecorded special, scheduled for Thanksgiving on HBO Max.
Will Smith shared the moment with two snapshots of the reunion on his Instagram, and the second certainly got everyone’s attention. In it, you could see Smith laughing and smiling with his ex. Janet Hubert…
For those who are not in the know, this huge deal. Viv’s original aunt on the series, Hubert, is known to have left the show after three seasons due to her public dislike for its protagonist, a dislike she shared in later years.
In fact, back in 2011 Hubert said TMZ that she would never participate in the reunion, “since I would never do anything with an ass like Will Smith,” calling him “selfish” who “didn’t grow up.”
“This … reunion will never happen in my life if there is no apology,” she said. “Which he doesn’t know the word.” Could an apology be part of their conversation?
The first picture was Smith, Tatyana Ali, Alfonso Ribeiro, Karin Parsons, Joseph Marcell, Daphne Maxwell Reid (Viv’s second aunt) and even DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Waiting for your permission to upload Instagram Media.
“Today is exactly 30 YEARS since @FreshPrince of Bel-Air debuted! So we’re doing something for you … The Banks family reunion is coming soon at @HBOmax! ” Smith signed his post, including a tribute to the late James Avery, who played his uncle Phil.
This reunion is an unrecorded anniversary special the streamer has scheduled for Thanksgiving. It is not yet clear how the reunion will be structured, however Deadline describes it as “a night of music, dancing and amazing guests”, it looks like fans will at least see Smith and Hubert, hopefully, discuss different issues.
At the time of her departure, Smith suggested that ego was a factor, joking in interviews that she wanted it to be Aunt Viv from Bel Air. She insisted it was not true, insisting that she was always a professional on set.
In 2016 Us weeklyHubert said at least part of the problem was that Smith didn’t want to help the rest of the actors fight for more in their contract negotiations, ostensibly telling them, “My deal is my deal, and your deal is yours.” it’s all about. “
In the same year, she told The Present that as recently as 2009, she asked Smith through her manager to at least honestly talk about her behavior on the set after he defamed her in the press many years ago.
Hopefully this conversation between them can be healing, as Hubert has played a huge role in the show’s success. Of course, fans were delighted with her portrayal as “Aunt Viv” went viral on Twitter.
First things first, rest in peace, Uncle Phil🙏🏽, but it’s the drug Will and the real Aunt Viv, crushing their beef after all these years 🔥🔥🔥 https://t.co/5FzYbiqi9A
I said September would be kind to us, and listen, Will Smith and Aunt Viv’s first actress Janet Louise Huber made it up. Coincidence? I think no. pic.twitter.com/tTErXf0fq5
