Development team from Whatsapp is currently working on a new feature that will decrypt voice messages for users so they don’t need to hear audio messages.
As almost always, this feature was discovered by employees WABetaInfo and is currently under development. In addition, the site says that the transcription will be done locally on the user’s phone, so Facebook will not have access to the audio recordings. However, the transcription will be used by Apple to improve its speech recognition technology and is optional.
The decrypted voice messages will be stored locally, so you can access them anytime in the future without re-decrypting the message. WhatsApp users can also decide which messages to transcribe.
WhatsApp will soon decrypt voice messages
This feature is currently in development for iOS users, and there is no information on whether this feature will be available to Android users and when it will. However, WhatsApp has a solid track record of bringing important features to iOS and Android, so we may see some kind of solution for Android users in the future.
WhatsApp is expected to implement this feature for users of its iOS beta in the near future. There is currently no news on when this feature will start rolling out.
