What is TPM for Windows 11? Microsoft shows you how to protect your PC

One of the biggest limitations when installing Windows 11 was the security requirements defined by Microsoft. They are based on various hardware standards that are not followed by many PCs, even though they are recent.

Of course, many people doubt the need for elements such as TPM or Secure Boot. To better illustrate its usefulness and why it should be used, Microsoft has created a very descriptive video. In it, we can see the real usefulness of TPM.

The requirements that Microsoft has put forward for Windows 11 have been criticized by many users. They claim that their PCs support the new system and that they are turned away from it just because of the hardware they need.

To clarify once and for all the need for this security component, Microsoft decided to create a test. He put one of his best hackers attacking Windows 11 and 10 in a scenario with and without TPM. The difference is obvious.

The proof that the video provides well shows the difference between Windows 11 and Windows 10 without TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, which can be easily and successfully attacked both remotely and locally. To do this, they used RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) (RDP) to provide administrator access and then distribute ransomware.

In the case of local access, access through biometric authentication on a PC without VBS (virtualization based security) was investigated. One PCILeech was used to access memory in vulnerable Windows 10, then the fingerprint reader information was changed resulting in system access.

Naturally, these two scenarios did not exist on Windows 11 PCs. Various measures available in the system and initially active prevent all these types of attacks, while the user does not even need to take any action.

Microsoft allows the installation of Windows 11, but always warns of the dangers of following these security measures. The new system is also more stable, but the choice of the user remains with the user.
