Restrictive measures still in place in some markets and a slower-than-expected recovery in demand continue to put pressure on TAP’s operations. But now the airline is showing “clear signs of recovery.” The guarantee was issued on Tuesday 14 September by TAP Executive President Christine Urmier-Widener.

“The measures taken to combat the pandemic are still not in the past. So, even with the tremendous efforts made by Portugal regarding vaccinations, we still face many restrictions (quarantine requirements) in some key markets such as the United States and Brazil, “said the official, who was heard this afternoon. on a parliamentary committee that oversees the pandemic response and economic recovery.

But the scenario is changing. “Fortunately, we are starting to see clear signs of recovery, such as the opening of the Brazilian market, which gives us hope that the worst phase of the pandemic is behind us,” said the TAP president. An example of the airline’s confidence in recovery, the manager explained, is the proposal planned for the coming months. During the winter season, TAP plans to offer 941 flights a week, which is about 80% of the capacity that existed in 2019 before the pandemic. For comparison, in the winter of last year, TAP provided only 30-40% of the capacity that it had in 2019.
