A van driver ran into people marching on a gay pride march in Wilton Manors, near Fort Lauderdale, Florida, killing at least one person and injuring another.
Authorities are still determining whether this was a deliberate assault by detaining a driver who was speeding a van towards LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) parade participants. A minibus knocked down two demonstrators participating in the march. Two men were taken to hospital, one of them died. The second victim must survive.
The FBI is involved in the investigation of the incident, but Fort Lauderdale law enforcement officials refuse to confirm that the hit was accidental. “We evaluate all hypotheses; said Ali Adamson, a police department detective quoted by CNN.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis said the van was targeting the vehicle that was carrying Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a member of the United States House of Representatives. It was a terrorist act against the LGBT community, ”defended Trantalis. “It was not an accident. It was deliberate, deliberate, so that it would target a specific person. Fortunately, this man did not succeed, but, unfortunately, they hit two more, ”he added.
