A video showing the surrender of about a dozen Russian soldiers in eastern Ukraine prompts accusations from Moscow of war crimes against the Kyiv regime. The footage shows unarmed Russian soldiers lying on the ground as the shooting man appears. There is a version on social networks that they died from a mortar shell, and not from a summary execution.

Russia accuses Ukraine of executing more than ten Russian soldiers who surrendered to Ukrainian forces during a military operation in Makiivka, Luhansk region. Moscow’s claims are based on drone footage showing the bodies of Russian soldiers lying on the floor of a farm in the area in eastern Ukraine, as well as other videos and social media posts of the deaths of about a dozen Russian soldiers.

“This brutal murder of Russian military personnel is not the first and not the only war crime of Ukraine,” the Russian Defense Ministry said. “This is a common practice in the Ukrainian armed forces, actively supported by the Kyiv regime and blatantly ignored by its Western superiors,” Moscow added in statements reproduced by Reuters.
