UBetween yesterday and this Thursday, a violent storm caused severe flooding in Spain, especially in Tarragona, Castellón and Toledo, where thousands of homes were left without electricity and roads and railways were cut off.

According to the Civil Protection Service of the Generalitat of Catalonia, 77 people have been evacuated from their homes in the Alcanar area, Tarragona, and placed in various hotels and sports centers due to severe flooding that hit the municipality.

Six more people were evacuated from the nearby town of Uldekon.

At Alcanar, it rained in three hours, the equivalent of a half-year average. Interior Minister Joan Ignasi Elena lamented that no meteorological service had predicted the scale of yesterday’s torrential rains.

The Spanish authorities carried out several home rescue operations and were forced to leave the camp.

In the Valencian community, as of 7:00 am today, emergency services have responded to over 600 incidents, most of which involve submersibles and flooded garages.

In the municipality of Pedralba, firefighters had to rescue a couple whose car was blown away by the rain. The woman managed to get out of the car, but the man was dragged along with the car, and he needed help.

Material damage is great, but so far torrential rains have not claimed any casualties.

The State Meteorological Agency has released satellite images of Spain for the past 12 hours.

Thirteen regions are currently in a yellow or orange state due to storms as bad weather is still expected, especially in Catalonia, Valencia, Aragon, Balearic Islands and Navarre. The weather will improve completely only from Sunday.
