On Sunday, US President Joe Biden said the country is “closer than ever” to declaring independence from a “deadly virus,” referring to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Today we are celebrating America, our freedom, our independence. July 4th is a sacred day in our country, ”Biden said in his speech on this patriotic date.

The President of the United States organized his first massive White House event to celebrate Independence Day, a date his government deemed auspicious for American family reunification after months of pandemic-related restrictions.

“We are emerging from the darkness of a year of pandemic and isolation,” he added, calling the celebration “COVID-19 Independence and Independence Day.”

“America is uniting again,” he stressed.

However, he warned that the battle with covid-19 was not over.

“We have a lot of work ahead of us,” said Biden, who insisted the virus was “not defeated,” noting that “powerful” variants such as delta, first discovered in India, have emerged.

In this context, he suggested that Americans get immunized, pointing out that “the best protection against these options is vaccination.

“If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, get vaccinated now,” Biden said, adding, “We don’t want to go back to where we were a year ago.”

The southern lawn of the presidential residence welcomed guests to sample barbecues, one of the most ingrained customs among Americans to celebrate their independence.

According to Johns Hopkins University, Biden recalled the more than 600,000 deaths from COVID-19 in a country with 33.7 million positive cases.

The President of the United States, who took office on January 20, admitted a few weeks ago that the goal of providing 70% of the adult population with at least one dose of the vaccine by this date will not be achieved.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 67.1% of the population over 18 (about 173.1 million) received at least one injection, and 58.2% are already fully immunized.

Of the total population, 54.9% (182.4 million) received a dose and 47.4% completed vaccinations.
