The United States carried out an attack on the “organizer” of the Daesh-K branch of the extremist group in Afghanistan, which announced a terrorist attack at the Kabul airport, the US military said.

“The unmanned airstrike took place in the Afghan province of Nangarhar. [leste]… “At first indications, we have killed the target,” Central Command Commander Bill Urban said Friday.

In the same statement, the official said he was not aware of the existence of “any civilian casualties” in the “unmanned aerial vehicle” attack.

The attack took place the day after the bombing claimed by Daesh-K, the Islamic State of Khorasan Province (ISKP), which is considered an enemy of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Thursday the President of the United States, Joe Biden promised to “track down and pay” those responsible for the attack. which caused at least 170 deaths and 150 injuries, including 13 US soldiers.

The Taliban captured Kabul on August 15, ending an offensive that began in May when US and NATO forces began withdrawing.

International forces have been in the country since 2001 in the context of the United States-led offensive against the extremist regime (1996-2001), which welcomed the al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, mainly responsible for the terrorist attacks of February 11, September 2001, on the ground.

The takeover of the capital ended a 20-year foreign military presence in Afghanistan by the United States and NATO allies, including Portugal.
