“The people on Twitter, past and present, are strong and resilient,” Jack Dorsey tweeted on the social media site a day after half the team at the company he co-founded in 2006 was fired.

“They will always find a way, no matter how difficult the times,” added Dorsey, who left the leadership of Twitter about a year ago.

Many employees expected a reaction from their former boss and charismatic tech figure when Elon Musk took control of the platform a week ago after a long and complicated takeover process.

As of Friday, about half of the San Francisco business group’s approximately 7,500 employees have been laid off.

“I know that many of you are furious with me. I take responsibility for everyone in this situation: I let the business grow too fast. I apologize for that,” explained Jack Dorsey, who stepped down from the company’s board of directors in 2022, handing over his role as chief executive to Parag Agrawal, the group’s former CTO, at the end of November 2021.

Elon Musk bought Twitter last Thursday after a bumpy six-month deal process, immediately dissolving the board and firing Agrawal and other senior officials.

Also, the owner of the Tesla car company took the company out of the stock market and launched large projects in a few hours, while posting messages on Twitter with various promises, “doubles” of humor and provocations for his fans and ill-wishers.

Musk funded the $44 billion acquisition (an identical value in euros) through personal contributions, loans and partnerships, such as what he did with Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who placed almost 35 million Twitter shares in his hands. what he already had, becoming the second largest shareholder of the social network.

“I am grateful to everyone who worked on Twitter, and I really appreciate each of them. I don’t expect this to be answered now… Or maybe someday… And I understand,” Dorsey concluded in a message published today, accompanied by a heart-shaped “emoji” blue like the bird symbol of the social network.
