Trump’s ad asks people to support the troops. But a photograph of Russian aircraft is used here.

The MiG-29, a twin-engined fighter designed in the Soviet Union that first flew in 1977, is Russia’s primary fighter jet and is marketed worldwide. It was developed during the Cold War specifically to counter US F-15s and F-16s, and the US even got a few to play against in war games. Aircraft have recently been seen at a Russian airbase in Syria, as well as in Libya

Russia has also exported them to a number of countries, including North Korea, Syria, India and Uzbekistan… Iran also purchased 68 MiG-29 at the end of the USSR. In 1997, the United States even bought 21 “nuclear” MiG-29 from Moldova so that they don’t fall into the hands of opponents like Iran.

Trump’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment. The NRC declined to comment.

In the past, politicians have faced problems with advertising or creating content that used military equipment from Russia or other countries. Last October Rep.Brian Must (R-Fla.) posted on Twitter a photo of the Russian battle cruiser Peter the Great with the comment: “Happy Birthday to the US Navy. We thank the men and women who serve to protect our waters. ” His office later deleted the tweet.
