President Trump called the name George Floyd during his press appearance at the White House celebrating Friday’s new employment figures.

In one of several parts of his speech that appeared to come from prepared statements, Trump said, “Equal justice under the law must mean that every American receives equal treatment in every meeting with law enforcement regardless of race, color, sex or trust. They must receive fair treatment from law enforcement. They must accept it. “

“We all saw what happened last week. We cannot allow that to happen. May George look down and say this is a great thing that happened in our country. (This is) a happy day for him. It’s a happy day for everyone. This is a great day, extraordinary in terms of equality, “Trump continued.

“This is what is demanded by our Constitution and that is the goal of our country,” he concluded.

Prior to his comments about Floyd and equal justice under the law, Trump’s remarks about the demonstrations that took place after Floyd’s death were largely focused on praising law enforcement work done to extinguish demonstrators and urging several countries to allow the National Guard to enter.

“Call me, we will be ready for them so fast that their heads will spin,” he said, noting the success in Minneapolis, criticizing the mayor of the city.
