The fourth generation of the large crossover is a technological revolution thanks to e-POWER technology, in which a gasoline engine powers an electric one. Prices start from 49 thousand euros.

Almost seven million units have been sold since 2001, and three million since 2015. The Nissan X-Trail will take on new life next month with the introduction of the fourth generation. The family crossover, which can have seven seats, looks like the larger Qashqai, has led to a technological revolution that starts with driver assistance and is expressed above all in the engines, all electrified and with a maximum point in both versions with e-POWER . technology, Nissan’s system, in which a gasoline engine powers an electric one, eliminating the need for recharging.

The new e-POWER system for the X-Trail consists of a powerful battery and a starter integrated with a variable compression gasoline engine that works only as a generator, inverter and a 150kW front electric motor. Works like a real electric, with instant and linear throttle response and silence in almost all situations.

Unveiled at the Alfandega do Porto Hybrid and Electric Car Show, the X-Trail is part of a commitment by Nissan, which will offer electrified offerings for all models next year before selling only electric vehicles in 2030. While its beefy exterior seems to indicate it’s meant for off-road adventures, only one of the three versions has all-wheel drive, and the focus is on comfort even while driving, linking the smoothness of an electric vehicle to the lightness of an e-Pedal. A step that allows you to accelerate and brake using only the accelerator pedal.

The information that the head-up display projects onto the windshield, the Wi-Fi system, the ProPilot technology that keeps the crossover in its lane, accelerates and brakes, the surround view camera and adaptive lighting are just some of the examples. Offers X-Trail, although its strong point is the engines.

The crossover starts with the 1.5 VCR turbo, a 163-horsepower mild hybrid that hits 200 km/h and consumes between 7.1 and 7.4 liters depending on the version. Their prices start from 49 thousand euros.

The X-Trail with e-POWER engine and all-wheel drive costs from €51,250, develops 150 kW (204 horsepower), has a maximum torque of 330 Nm, consumes 5.9 l/100 km and accelerates to 170 km/h.

In the top and with prices starting from 52,050 euros, the e-POWER e-4ORCE has all-wheel drive, 157 kW (213 hp), 6.5 liters consumption and a top speed of 180 km/h, with an acceleration of 0 -100 km/h in 7.0 or 7.2 seconds, depending on whether the car is a five-seater or a seven-seater. Only this version will appear with three rows of seats, the latter intended for children (passengers up to 1.60 meters tall), although there are some surprises in terms of space. The second row of seats can move up to 22 centimeters, and the 575-liter luggage compartment holds more than 400 liters even with seven passengers.

Being electric, the X-Trail, which is already in pre-sale and has a starting offer that leaves it with a cost of 550 euros per month, is class 1 on the Via Verde motorways.
