The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs is following the events after the tragedy in South Korea during the Halloween celebration, keeping in touch with the authorities, who did not identify a single Portuguese among the victims, an official source said.

A source from the Portuguese MNE told Luza that so far there is no news of Portuguese citizens among the victims and he continues to monitor the situation.

On Twitter, Portugal’s MNE expressed “the most heartfelt solidarity with the South Korean people and their authorities following the tragic incident in Seoul.”

“Our thoughts are with all the victims and those who provide emergency assistance at this difficult time,” the message says.

At least 150 people were killed and more injured Saturday night during a stampede in central Seoul when a Halloween crowd rushed down a narrow street, crushing dozens to death.

Also via the social network Twitter, the Prime Minister of Portugal conveyed a message of solidarity to all those affected by the “tragic incident”.

“Portugal stands in solidarity with South Korea and all those affected by the tragic incident in Seoul. Our sincere condolences to all families who are mourning the loss of their loved ones,” wrote António Costa.

For his part, the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza, sent a message of condolence and solidarity to the head of the South Korean state, Yun Suk-yeol, in connection with this tragedy.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol today announced the start of a period of national mourning following the deaths of at least 150 people on Halloween night in Seoul and vowed to conduct an “in-depth investigation” into the causes.

Yoon Suk Yeol declared national mourning “until the accident is under control” and vowed to give “high priority” to the investigation of the case in an address to the nation.
