“Quite frankly, if you are not vaccinated right now, despite being offered the vaccine, and you have no clinical reason to refuse vaccination, you are not just irresponsible, you are an idiot,” the worker told Times Radio.

“I’m sorry, but it really is. Because the Omicron variant is so contagious that if you don’t get vaccinated but keep circulating, you will get it. And this will put strong pressure on the health care system, ”added the former head of the Labor government.

Blair, who served in Downing Street from 1997 to 2007, opposed “harsh” measures to force the population to vaccinate, but called for increased efforts to “convince” those who did not receive injections.

Later, when asked about these statements on BBC Radio 4, the Labor politician admitted that he “may have been too undiplomatic” in his “use of language.”

Learning that the UK today reported more than 100,000 daily COVID-19 infections today for the first time, Blair said this is “potentially the most serious moment of the pandemic.”

“If hospital admissions start to rise, when you realize you have a terrible problem, it will be too late,” he thought.
