This is suffering, stupid

The political trap of approving the PEC-kamikaze closed as expected: all political forces support the buying of votes, disguised as an emergency measure. This opportunistic voter pleasure is the essence of the activities of small-represented parties without leaders of genuine self-expression, focused on protecting private, regional, corporate or segmented interests.

A “trap” because to vote against her in the name of principles was to be rude to the voter. The yes vote helped Bolsonaro, even if the PEC’s electoral dividends are dubious. Between principles and mercy, even serious and sincere opposition to Bolsonaro clung to the phrase: “This is suffering, fool.”

This is an undeniable and deeply disturbing conclusion. During the period of emergency assistance in Brazil, there has been a significant change in income levels. Since then, the situation has only worsened. “I discussed how I would vote for the PEC, but then I stopped at a traffic light, gave 20 reais to a family camped there, and heard from them how that 20 reais was so decisive for their children, so I voted in favor,” he said. he is an old school political senator and a staunch opponent of the government.

Fighting inequality is a phrase of political usage that is not associated with a consensus in the ruling elites on the need to reduce poverty, disease and ignorance. It is not an “evil” concocted by the “ruling classes” as claimed by the sub-Marxism that prevails in much of higher education. It is an “invertebrate society” that does not realize how much it is hostage to suffering that it cannot eliminate.

It is clear that the “social sensitivity” of political leaders is heightened when they are asked to vote, which is not a Brazilian feature. In fact, the approval of the PEC reflects a much more troubling scenario than fiscal indiscipline, a clear disregard for institutionality (the Constitution is changing in line with the current political moment) and circumvention of electoral rules.

In social terms, the “state of emergency” that justifies pre-election kindness is that of a country that is back on the hunger map, boasting of being the world champion in food production. Regardless of the political creed of the ruler on duty, the same troubles are discussed in the depths of the soul. It can be said that no political system works if disease, poverty and ignorance persist at its core.

In this sense, “state of emergency” is our permanent state.
