There are more than many warnings about Android apps that do much more than you think, and the last one should not be ignored.
According to research conducted by Dr.Web, at least 9 applications available for free download from the Google Play Store put users at risk. Basically, these apps use your authentication method to steal your Facebook login credentials.
These applications are considered Trojans and have already accumulated about 6 million downloads in total. After the company informed Google, they were eventually removed from the Play Store. However, if you have any of them installed on your smartphone, you will need to remove them manually.
How These Android Apps Steal Your Facebook Data
The process used in these malicious applications is very simple, which ultimately allows millions of users to be defrauded. Typically, when a user selects the Facebook login option, the application opens a legitimate web page where the user can enter their details.
However, this page runs JavaScript that steals user information and immediately sends it to the hackers’ server. Once logged in, the Trojan can still steal all cookie information present in the current browser session.
This personal information can then be used by hackers to carry out a large number of attacks on users.
