According to information released this Friday, October 28 by the German media, in October this year, Lufthansa began the necessary work on the first huge Airbus A380 aircraft in its fleet, which will be put back into service after more than two years. storage.

As the past few months have shown, after stating during the pandemic that it sees no prospect of returning the A380 due to the impact of Covid-19 on the air travel market, the company officially confirmed in June this year the need to reuse their double-decker aircraft.

The change in plans for the world’s largest passenger transport model was due to two reasons: the recovery of the air travel market much faster than expected, and Boeing delays with the design of the large, twin-engined 777X that Lufthansa hoped to soon have available for use on its high-demand long-haul flights.

Thus, as reported aero.deLufthansa Chairman and CEO Carsten Spohr said last Thursday, October 27, that three Airbus A380s would be ready to operate at the Munich base in the summer of 2023, but given strong demand, Spohr said only three were not enough.

Also, according to information obtained by the German Aviation Portal, Lufthansa itself has indicated that the A380, registration D-AIMK, is the first of the large aircraft that work has already started in Teruel, Spain, and is flying again.

As noted earlier, Lufthansa has decided to sell six of its 14 A380s back to Airbus, and of the remaining eight, at least four to five will return to service from Munich, a base where there is high demand for premium services.
