Volkswagen has just unveiled the ID.5. This is the German company’s first all-electric SUV coupe. After the small ID.3 and bulky ID.4, the new model offers sporty aesthetics, a 300-horsepower GTX variant and the promise of over 500 kilometers of autonomy in the standard version.

This is another product based on the MEB modular constructor. VW will place 3 variants of this new SUV next year. Let’s find out more about an offer with a very interesting price.

ID.5 comes in three editions: Pro, Pro Performance and GTX.

Volkswagen has unveiled the third model in its all-electric ID family. This new electric SUV coupe shares the engine with the ID.4, all versions have a 77 kWh battery and are based on the MEB platform (exclusively for electric vehicles) of their brothers.

Thus, as announced, the new Volkswagen ID.5 has an Access (Pro) version with 174 hp and a Pro Performance version up to 204 hp. Both versions promise up to 520 kilometers of autonomy, the same autonomy as the ID.4 and always within the WLTP cycle.

As for its maximum speed, it is limited to 160 kilometers per hour.

The most powerful version is GTX with 300 hp, 310 Nm and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds.... This value is achieved thanks to two electric motors, one for each axle, the total power of which is 220 kW. At the same time, the autonomy drops slightly, up to 480 kilometers.

In terms of charging, all ID.5 models can be charged up to 135 kW, providing over 300 kilometers of battery life in just half an hour. Its top speed is limited to 180 kilometers per hour.

Custom design is a breath of fresh air for SUVs

In terms of design, this is a car with a more muscular line than the ID.4, although it inherits the rear LEDs, wheels and some elements from its sibling. Its dimensions are more typical of a compact car: almost 4.6 meters long, 1.8 meters wide and 1.6 meters high, but with 549 liters of luggage space, one of the largest in its segment.

The interior is also very similar to what we saw in ID.4, with 12-inch center screen and virtually no buttons... This screen is accompanied by a 5.3-inch instrument cluster as well as a Head-Up Display (augmented reality on the windshield).

In terms of software, it is updated via OTA, is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and has a We Connect ID app that lets you monitor battery status and autonomy, among other things.

Price and availability

The Volkswagen ID.5 will hit the market in 2022 and there are no pricing details yet. ID.4 arrived in Portugal with prices ranging from 39,356 euros to Spain from 49,950 to 58,784 euros, so the price of this new electric SUV is expected to be online or even slightly higher.
