BUFFALO, N.Y. – A vehicle hijacked a group of law enforcement officers at a George Floyd demonstration late Monday in Buffalo, injuring at least two.

Video posted by observers shows a line of police officers, supported by armored personnel carriers, hurrying and handling a man who is being interviewed by a man with a TV camera around 9:30 at night. Other officers use batons to hit protesters, who are scattered.

Moments later, there was the sound of a firearm releasing a camera, then officers ran when an SUV rolled through a group of officers, who ran. At least one person seems to have entered under the wheel of a vehicle.

The SUV drove around the armored vehicle and shot when more gunfire could be heard.

The officers were taken to the Erie County Medical Center. Authorities say their condition is stable.

Erie County executive Mark Poloncarz tweeted shortly before 11 pm that the driver and passenger of the vehicle were believed to be in custody.

Buffalo Police spokesman Michael DeGeorge said two people were shot in protests on Monday. It was not immediately known whether the shots were from the police or otherwise, he said. They are treated in the same hospital.

When a police helicopter flew overhead, officers in armored vehicles then fired tear gas to disperse the crowd in several blocks where police were beaten. Several shops in the area were burglarized, and people were seen entering and leaving carrying goods.

A woman on the front porch said, “I’m afraid,” to someone over the telephone.
