In an interview with Radio Metropol On Monday morning (31), political scientist Claudio André de Souza listed the factors that he believes led to the defeat of ACM Neto (União) in the Ondina Palace elections. According to the expert, the União Brasil candidate failed to get close to Lulismo in order to attract the Bahian electorate, which gave 72% of the vote to Lula (PT).

“Another important point: he had to bring the campaign closer to the Lulismo agenda. With this independence, he tried to establish relations with the Lulista base in the state, but this was not enough,” the political scientist believes.

Another factor cited by Claudio Andre was what he called “a very personal profile”. For a specialist, the choice of a candidate for vices, for example, had to be conceived on the basis of electoral magnitude.

“He chooses a successful, correct person, recognized in Bahian society, but without any significance of a political career. Being a candidate from the capital and knowing that the capital does not decide the outcome of the elections, he obviously had to choose a vice president who had representation in the interior of Bahia and, above all, had political weight, ”the political scientist noted. who also stressed the need for PR nominees in the state’s smaller towns.

Claudio André also cited the controversy over Neto’s self-declaration as one of the factors that influenced his candidacy. The scientist argues that at this point the candidate had to return to alleviate the crisis that had arisen.
“Your campaign coordination may not have realized that on a scale of 0 to 10, the risk was at 8, that it would be much better to mitigate this situation by going back. No, on the contrary, he objected. In a state that unfortunately has a very strong connection to racism and the consequences of the slavery process, he simply doubles down on the second round and doesn’t come back. Something that Ana Coelho, his deputy, did,” he analyzed.

Along with Jeronimo Rodrigues (PT), elected with 52.79% of the vote last Sunday (30), the political scientist listed the strength of the now elected President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the state; approval of Governor Rui Costa (PT); and articulation with municipalities within.

“Even after the split of the PP, we had a governor, Rui Costa, who formulated the preservation of the leadership base within the powers of the mayor. We did a poll at the beginning of the campaign, many people understood that this might not be true, but in the first round we confirmed and saw that Jeronimo had the most mayors of Bahia,” he stressed.
