On Tuesday, the Pentagon was closed after several shots rang out near the platform of the subway station serving the building.

At least one person was lying on the ground and it is still unknown whether he was injured or not, according to two eyewitnesses to the shooting, who spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to disclose information.

The incident took place near a subway station that is part of the Pentagon’s transit center, the Pentagon Defense Forces reported on Twitter.

A Pentagon source said the building was closed due to “police activities.”

Metro and Metro Bus trains were forced to bypass the Pentagon due to ongoing police investigations.

Numerous Arlington County police and medical units arrive at the Pentagon despite reports of an active sniper on the subway platform.

The information that several people will be injured has not yet been confirmed, the Associated Press (AP) news agency reported.

According to the American television company CNN, the incident took place near a building on the Metro Bus platform, one of the main entrances to the Pentagon, which is used by thousands of people every day.

According to the news agency France-Presse (AFP), because of the incident, the Pentagon is on high alert.

Citing the US Department of Defense Security Service, AFP reports that Pentagon officials were called on speakerphone to remain in the building after the shooting.

“The Pentagon is currently on high alert due to the incident at the metro station. We urge the public to avoid this area, ”the Pentagon Security Force tweeted.

Local television station WUSA showed several ambulances and police cars in the Pentagon area.
