The Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie wants you to choose the next team

Fans will finally get the chance to decide where players go – if they are willing to pay.

Spencer Dinwiddie’s net guard began GoFundMe page Friday with the stated goal of increasing 2625.8 bitcoin, which is equivalent to $ 24,632,600. If that number is met, Dinwiddie said he would play on a one-year contract with a minimum team salary that the fans chose. If not, he will donate all his money to charity.

Dinwiddie is under contract next year, but can opt out and become a free agent next summer. It is not clear how fans will determine their next destination.

“Shoe companies and endorsers influence team decisions all the time,” he told The Athletic. “My biggest supporters / we will always be fans, so I want to have fun with this while we are all under quarantine. I hope there are no team owners / personnel participating so there are no discrepancies in this child endorsement agreement.”

It seems that this is mostly a joke. Dinwiddie is active on social media platforms and wants to engage fans before. In the fall, he wants to monetize his current three-year, $ 35 million contract by allowing fans to buy bonds in future income. The league said he was not permitted to do so, and is currently reviewing the tokenizing of Dinwiddie’s contract. It is unclear whether this new idea will violate the collective bargaining agreement between the NBA and the players’ union.

Dinwiddie, who was the Pistons second round pick from Colorado in 2014, is an NBA success story. The 27-year-old is a League G product that has grown with the Nets. Dinwiddie averaged career highs of 20.6 points and 6.8 assists when the season was postponed due to a coronavirus pandemic.

By Saturday afternoon, the campaign had raised a little over $ 800.
