The Bauru Headquarters of the Brazilian National Council of the Laity has released a booklet in recent days that has been distributed to pastoral leaders in the city and aims to give the believers reflection and political education. Led by the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), the Charming Politics project draws a parallel between Christian concepts and the importance of voting for candidates who are actually committed to concepts such as love of neighbor, good points of contact. and social world.
In its 58 pages, the work spreads the teachings of Pope Francis, applying them to the contemporary Brazilian context. The lyrics also address the moment of polarization, the politico-economic and even institutional crisis that the country is going through, showing ethical principles in choosing a government proposing a national union. In this context, the role of popular and social movements is also emphasized, and the book ends with themes on how to become a more active participant in the entire electoral process.
“Assessing candidates who represent sectors and identities underrepresented in parliaments, for example: indigenous peoples, people of African descent, women, discriminated minorities, workers and laborers, if they are active people in their struggle for liberation in accordance with the Justice Society project, The Peace and Wholeness of Creation,” states the Politics of Enchantment on page 55.
The booklet also suggests that the faithful consider during the voting candidates for re-election who behaved in accordance with those issues in which the CNBB clearly positioned itself. “One cannot vote, for example, for those who supported Constitutional Amendment No. 1 of welfare reform, or against indigenous peoples, or for the legalization of land grabbing or a poison package (which allows the use of pesticides banned in other countries of the world), for example,” the work is quoted as saying on page 54.
