The highest mountain in Europe has decreased by a meter in just four years

This phenomenon can be inextricably linked to climate change and the melting of glaciers.

Europe’s tallest mountain appears to be shrinking. French experts say they measured Mont Blanc almost a meter below its official height, published in 2017.

After the September expedition, the height of the mountain was 4,807.81 meters – lower than 4,808.72 meters measured four years ago.

“Now the task of climatologists, glaciologists and other scientists is to analyze all the data collected and present all the theories that explain this phenomenon,” experts said at a press conference in Saint-Gervais-les-Bains last Wednesday.

But it looks like Mont Blanc has been shrinking for more than ten years now, as in 2007 its height was 4810.80 meters. This phenomenon can be inextricably linked to climate change and the melting of glaciers.
