The fight between Nose and Altis also plays on innovation – Telecommunications

Nos was the company with the highest research and development (R&D) spending in Portugal in 2020. According to Directorate General of Education and Science Statistics (DGEEC) in a report “Companies with high spending on R&D in 2020 – Portugal”, quoted today by DN e consults by Business, Nos tops the list of the 100 most innovative companies in Portugal. In 2020, its R&D expenditures totaled € 67.251 million, placing it first over competitor Altice, which, with six companies, had a total investment of € 59.496 million.

But it is the company headquartered in Forum Picoas that has the most human resources in research and development. A total of 662 people, but only five doctoral degrees. FNL employs 226 people, 12 of whom have doctorates.

In third place is Bial, with expenditures of 44.4 million euros. It employs 164 people in research and development, 60 of whom have doctorates. It’s even the top 100 company with the most PhDs in this area of ​​innovation.

On the fourth anonymous place, the fifth place is occupied by BCP with an investment volume of 33.281 million euros.

The report is based on preliminary findings from the 2020 National Science and Technology Capability Survey (IPCTN20), but not all companies have allowed their data to be published, so many of the 100 list look anonymous and have no associated meanings. This is a preliminary list so far.

The General Directorate of Education and Science Statistics adds, based on preliminary results, that “the 100 companies / groups with the largest inward investment in R&D account for 49% of total business sector expenditures, which reached EUR 1,811 million and amounted to 0.89% of national GDP in 2020” … In addition, “R&D personnel in these companies represented 36% of the total human resources allocated to these activities (30,206 staff members) in the business sector.”
