The accident occurred in the Charlottenburg district, not far from the site of the 2016 Christmas market attack.
The driver hit dozens of people in Charlottenburg Berlin. At least one person died and twelve people were injured, a spokesman for the Berlin police confirmed to German media. According to authorities, the number of victims may increase.
Speaking to the press, Thilo Kablitz, a spokesman for the Berlin police, acknowledged that the number of wounded was higher and said that several of the wounded were in critical condition. According to firefighters, three of the victims are in serious condition, five are in critical condition.
Police also confirmed that the driver, a 29-year-old man with dual citizenship of Germany and Armenia, broke into the sidewalk between Rankestrasse and Tauenzienstrasse, where dozens of people were. The site is near Breitscheidplatz, where terrorist Anis Amri drove his truck into a crowd at a Christmas market in 2016. As a result of the attack, 12 people were killed and 56 were injured.
After immobilization, the car remained in a shop window on Marburgerstrasse. According to a spokesman for the Berlin police, the suspect got out of the car, he was stopped by the people who were there, until he was stopped by a policeman who arrived at the scene.

Witnesses speak at high speed
Several witnesses heard by the Berliner Morgenpost say the driver was driving at high speed on the Tauentzienstrasse, around 150 km/h. However, this information has not been confirmed by an official source.
The same newspaper states that between the first place of impact of the car and the shop window where it was parked, the distance is two hundred meters. No injuries were reported at the store, police said.
The police have scheduled a press conference for this afternoon.
More than 130 emergency and police officers are on site, some of them heavily armed. An emergency helicopter landed on the scene to evacuate the wounded.
