(CNN) – We can all laugh now. Thankfully, the natural world has answered our prayers for a little respite from daily havoc and gloom.

From a photo of an Alaskan brown bear caught ‘dancing’ with its paws in the air, to a northern dwarf owl that gives a sharp wink, photos, which have been designated as some of the best entries to the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2020, will surely be uplifting anyone who needs to chuckle.

The competition, which is the sixth year, is open for entries until 30 June, but the founder has decided to share some of the best images so far.

There is also a serious side to this award, with founders and professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam eager to promote the conservation of wildlife and natural habitats.

“The pictures that came this year are very poignant, and we are very happy to have so many strong competitors,” Sullam said in a statement.

“The world is experiencing an upheaval that has never happened before, but the only brightest light that comes out of the gloom is the positive impact on the climate created by our self-locking.

“Unfortunately, many conservation efforts are losing funds and our competition is there to continue to raise awareness, smile, and hopefully support wild animals throughout the world.”
