According to the publicationThe coffin of the late Elizabeth II is made of pedunculate oak and lined with lead, as was the coffin of her husband Prince Philip, who died in April 2021.

London-based funeral company Leverton and Sons, responsible for the royal funeral, explained to a British newspaper four years ago that it did not know when or by whom the two coffins were made, which were given to them when they started working in 1991 for the royal family. .

“It’s a pedunculate oak that’s very hard to find” and very expensive, manager Andrew Leverton explained at the time.

The lead lining makes the coffin hermetic, as it will be placed in a chamber rather than buried.

The brass handles are specially designed for royal coffins, as is the lid with the coat of arms of the monarchy.

“This is not something that can be done in one day,” Leverton told The Times.

After the screening in Edinburgh, the coffin will be delivered to London on Tuesday evening (13).

The Royal Standard, the emblem of the monarchy, which was traditionally flown over Buckingham, Sandrigham or Windsor when the Queen was present, will cover her coffin.

A scepter and an orb, a globe with a cross, symbolizing the Christian world, will also be placed in the coffin.
