Former Benfica and Real Madrid coach Jose Antonio Camacho has revealed how his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo has served whites.
“When Ronaldo arrived, Jorge Mendes called me and I went to them, Cristiano was worried, he wanted to know why I left Real Madrid. I told him that if I had players like him, I definitely wouldn’t leave. It’s hard to say about his departure whether he performed well or not, the responsibility that fell on him was great, he could continue and not win anything … After Real Madrid, he played at a good level, but there are things that age does not allow to do , like before. But Cristiano still has the energy to get what he wants, with his ambition he will want to have a great World Cup. He spent a good part of his brilliant career at Real Madrid and we will always be grateful to him for stabbing the dagger in the heart of Barcelona, who then had the best team in their history. He was able to win the Ballon d’Or, he made Real Madrid win titles, it was very difficult and only possible because of his pride and the great professional that he is. We keep the same memory of him as of Di Stefano,” the coach said in an interview with A BOLA.
