ABOUTThe perpetrators of the murder appeared at the residence of the head of state in Port-au-Prince, claiming that they belong to the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), but their behavior did not comply with this statute, according to Ambassador Boccit Edmond. …

“It was a well-planned attack and they were professionals,” the Haitian diplomat told reporters in Washington.

“We have a video and we think it’s about mercenaries,” he added.

Haitian First Lady Martin Mois, injured in the attack, will be flown to Miami for treatment.

“I can tell you that since this morning the necessary steps have been taken to transfer her to a hospital in Miami,” the ambassador said.

According to Edmond, who said they spoke to each other in Spanish, an investigation is ongoing to determine where the killers are, their motives and nationality.

The diplomat believes it possible that the assassins have already left Haiti, probably heading for the Dominican Republic, the Spanish-speaking country with which Haiti shares the island of Hispaniola.

“We do not know if they have already left or are still in the country,” he commented.

“If they are not in Haiti, there is only one way for them to leave, through the land borders, because there are no planes there,” he said.

Edmond also stated that the possible use of a private jet would have been detected by civil aviation, and an exit from the territory across land borders would go unnoticed.
