Militants posing as Taliban opened fire at the wedding over the music, killing at least three people.

Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said two of the three attackers were detained and assured them that they were not acting on behalf of the radical Islamic movement currently in power in Afghanistan.

“Last night at Haji Malang Jan’s wedding in Shamspur Mar Gundi village in Nangarhar, three people posing as Taliban entered the ceremony and demanded that the music be stopped,” the spokesman said.

“As a result of the shooting, at least three people were killed and several others were injured,” he added.

“Two suspects were detained by the Taliban, and one who escaped is on the wanted list,” he said, assuring that the attackers “who used the name of the Islamic Emirate to solve their personal problems will face Sharia law.”

Qazi Mulla Adel, a spokesman for the Nangarhar provincial government, confirmed the incident without providing further details.

“Young people were playing music in a separate room, three Taliban came and opened fire on them. Two of the wounded are in serious condition, ”said an eyewitness quoted by the French news agency AFP.

All profane music was banned by the Taliban under their previous regime (1996-2001). Although the new Taliban government has yet to pass legislation on this matter, it still believes that listening to non-religious music is contrary to its views on Islamic law.

At a previous press conference, Zabihullah Mujahid assured us: “If someone decides to kill a person, even if they are our people, this is a crime, and we will sue him and we will have to face the law.”
