director Sound boundaries, Morio Kishimoto, said that the game should have an average duration of 20 to 30 hours. In the case of so-called collector players who want to get 100% of the game, the duration can go up to 60 hours.

The information was revealed in an interview with the site. IGN this Wednesday (15th). Kishimoto explained that the activities present in the Open Zone, the name of the open world, are the reason why the game’s duration is much longer than in previous blue hedgehog titles.

“A game map that includes elements similar to levels is something that hasn’t been done before, so we had to come up with a new name. What is usually defined as a world in other level-based platform games is called “The Zone” in Sonic games, so we took that and combined it with “Open” which means a freely explorable field. So that’s what the Open Zone is,” Kishimoto said.

The director claimed that the open world that players will see in Sound boundaries is an evolution of the concept. He noted that the open area is the central part of the gameplay, and the stages are elements of space. As seen in previously released trailers, the map features elements such as platforms and loops to allow Sonic to interact while running and recall classic moments from the franchise.

Kishimoto also talked about other details such as that the game won’t be very easy, that the progression is well balanced, that he sees the title competing with Mario, Kirby e Donkey Kong (unlike other open world games) and that you have to solve puzzles with your head while others test the player’s skills with a controller.

Sound boundaries does not yet have a date, but a promise Sega is that it will appear in late 2022 – early 2023 for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X / S and Xbox One.
