Sonae buys UK vegan food manufacturer for 75 million – commerce

Sonae strengthened its position in the health food market with the acquisition of the company that owns the Gosh brand for £ 64 million (about € 75 million), the company led by Claudia Azevedo announced.

The Sonae Group said in a statement that the 95.4% acquisition of Claybell Limited was made through its subsidiary Sonae Food4Future. Claybell Limited fully owns Gosh Food, which manufactures and markets plant-based foods under the Gosh brand. “The company offers a range of clean label and allergen-free products through major retailers and food service operators in the UK,” Sonae explains in a statement, adding that the company distributes these products either through its Gosh brand. through the distributors’ own brands.

The British company has now acquired a revised turnover (including the impact of covid-19) of 22 million pounds (approximately 26 million euros) for the last fiscal year in May this year. Gosh will continue to be operated by the current team, which will hold 4.6% of the shares.

Sonae emphasizes, in a statement to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM)that the acquisition “is in line with Sonae’s proactive portfolio management strategy, targeting innovative companies in emerging sectors” that are linked to its core business.

This operation prompts Sonae to invest “in an attractive natural plant-based food industry.”
