“About 1½ percent” of Class 2020 brought back was positive, the spokesman told CNN on Sunday. None of the infected cadets were symptomatic, the spokesman said, adding “no cadets contracted through person-to-person contact while under Army care” and that those infected were isolated. The graduation class size is around 1,000 cadets.
“The Army and West Point have done careful planning to ensure the health and safety of cadets returning from the US Military Academy Class in 2020. There is compulsory screening for all and we have a small amount – about 1½ percent – – positive test,” said the spokesperson. “This was anticipated. Nothing was asymptomatic, and no cadets were contracted through person-to-person contact while under the care of the Army. Those who tested positive were isolated, and received appropriate care and attention, while we continued regular reintegration our cadets. ”
The West Point campus is in the state of New York, which is by far the country hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic. Cadets have been away from campus since early March.
