Sisters die from 19-hour hiatus linked to coronavirus

EDeeline Santos da Costa, 36, and Elaine Rodriguez dos Santos, 33, died from COVID-19 on the same day – within 7 hours – in different cities in Goias, Brazil.

G1 reports that the older sister, who was nine months pregnant, had an emergency caesarean section because she was infected with the new coronavirus.

After that, since she could not be near the child, she decided to go to the house of her sister, who had already contracted the infection, in order to go through a period of isolation together.

After several days, Edylane’s health deteriorated to the point that she had to be hospitalized on the 13th. Although with milder symptoms, Elaine was also hospitalized.

The health of both was deteriorating, both died this Friday. One died at 14:00, the other at 21:00 in different hospitals.

“These were days of great suffering. It was a very difficult time, ”said Erika Santos da Costa, sister of the two women.

In the past 24 hours, 37,582 new cases have been diagnosed in Brazil and another 910 have died. A total of 19,917,855 confirmed cases and 556,370 deaths have been reported in the Portuguese-speaking country.
