Three people were killed and 14 were injured in a shooting near a nightclub in the US state of Tennessee on Sunday, according to police. Chattanooga police officer Celeste Murphy said at a press conference that 14 people were shot and three were hit by a car as they fled the scene.



Of those shot, two died and a third fatality was hit by a car, Murphy said, adding that some of the wounded were in critical condition. The same official indicated that at dawn, the police were called in connection with the shooting incident on the avenue near the “nightclub”, and officers found several victims at the scene.


Multiple shooters were reported, but the investigation is ongoing and authorities are looking for more information. The police believe, however, that this was an isolated incident and that it does not pose a permanent threat to public safety.
