This was already expected, but now it has been confirmed. Shakira refused to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup, joining artists such as Dua Lipa or Rod Stewart, said Spanish journalist Adriana Dorronsoro, who contacted the artist’s representatives.
The Colombian singer regularly attended the opening of the World Championships, but turned down a million dollars to do it in Qatar. As for the reason, it is assumed that it is related to the lack of guarantees for the observance of human rights in the country.
The opening ceremony of the 2022 World Cup will take place on Sunday, before the game between the hosts and Ecuador, at 16:00. So far, BTS’s Jungkook, Robbie Williams, Lil Baby, and the Black Eyed Peas are the only artists confirmed to be at the event.
