Seven Portuguese entrepreneurs in the European ranking of the 25 largest recipients of public funds

Seven Portuguese were included in the first ranking at European level out of 25 who benefited the most from EU funds between 2014 and 2020. The rating was prepared by the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS) at the request of the European Parliament’s budgetary control committee.

The Brussels-based independent think tank analyzed data from about 600,000 European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), European Social Fund (ESF) and Cohesion Fund beneficiaries scattered across European countries to determine who they are. the ultimate beneficiaries of these public funds.

note that the direct beneficiary is a company, government agency or person who appears on the list as the recipient of European funds. The ultimate beneficiary is the person who directly or indirectly controls more than 25% of the companies. who are the direct beneficiaries of these public funds. European fund portals even list the direct beneficiary to whom the payment is made, for the sake of transparency, but they do not indicate the ultimate beneficiary who ultimately benefits from the money.

The best people

The list of the 25 largest end-users of the rallying funds is topped by the Indian couple Mittal. They received 101.1 million euros from European funds. through 17 companies that control in six different European countries – with an emphasis on the steel industrial conglomerate ArcelorMittal – in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, France and Poland. Secondly, there is Pole Maciej Wieczorek., which received 86.5 million euros as the holder of Celon Pharma.

The fourth largest ultimate beneficiary of European funds is Portuguese businessman António Manuel Queyros Vasconcelos da Mota.… € 72.6 million was raised through MESP – Mota Engil, general administrative and management services; Manvia – maintenance and operation of facilities and construction; and the following solid waste disposal and recycling companies: Algar, Ersuc, Resiestrela, Resinorte, Resulima, Suldouro, Valorlis or Valorsul.

Rui Paulo Fernandez Rodrigues of Portugal appears in seventh place.by € 51.4 million through the following companies in Portugal and the Czech Republic: IMA – Azeméis Molds Industry; IGM – Global Mold Industry; Inplas – plastics industry; MDA – Azeméis Molds; Plastaze – Azemeis Plastics; Simoldes – steel; Simoldes – Plastics and Simoldes Plásticos Czech.

Mario Nuno dos Santos Ferreira is the 16th largest beneficiary at the European level with € 33.8 million.thanks to the Douro Heritage companies; Hotel “Monumental Palace” and “Mystical Adventure”.

The 21st and 22nd places were taken by Hugo Emanuel da Silva Vagos Bole and Dulce Cristina Lourinha Araujo.both with € 29 million through the following joint ventures: Edurumos Educação; Ensiprof – vocational education and training; EPB – Braga Vocational School; Ruiz, Costa and Filhos e Rumos Education.

Maria Fernanda de Oliveira Ramos Amorim is the 24th largest final recipient of EU funds at the European level. € 27.4 million received through companies in Spain – Francisco Oller Sociedad Anonymous; Surodis; Trefinos – and the following companies in Portugal: Cork composites Amorim; Amorim Cork covering; Amorim Cork insulation; Amorim Florestal; Amorim Subertech; Grõwancork – structures with cork insulation; Reginacork – Cork Industry and Conversion; and Socori – Sociedade de Cortiças de Riomeão.

There are seven Portuguese, five Poles, three Czechs, three Germans and seven other nationalities on the list.
