The first ARD forecast gives greens 15 percent and to Liberal Democratic Party (FDP) 11 percent… Any of these parties will be able to participate in the coalition being formed for the new government.

Less than an hour after the first poll, both channels published new forecasts. ARD gave 24.9 percent for the Social Democratic Party (SPD) e 24.7 percent for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

In a new projection greens Annalena Baerbock have 14.8 percentand then the far right party Alternative to Germany (AfD) with 11.3%… The Liberal Democrats are expected to have 11.2 percent and the left five percent.

The second poll at the exit from the ZFD polls gave 25.8 percent for SPD e 24.2 for CDU… This projection indicates 14.7 percent for green and, as the fourth political force, Liberal Democrats – 11.8 percent. In this assessment AfD gains 10.8% of votes

However, these first numbers, published after polling stations close, should be treated with caution as they do not include postal voting.

Due to the pandemic, more than half of German voters may have chosen to vote by mail, which could lead to a record high in the current vote.

With the exception of the city-state of Berlin, polling stations for the federal elections in Germany, which will elect members of the Bundestag (the lower house of the German federal parliament), after 16 years of rule by Chancellor Angela Merkel, closed at 18:00 local time (17:00 from Lisbon).

Polling stations opened across the country at 8:00 a.m. local time, and about 60.4 million voters were asked to vote, down from the 2017 elections.

SPD claims to win

We have a mandate to form a government. Olaf Scholz [candidato social-democrata] will become chancellor“The General Secretary of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) Lars Klingbeil reacted immediately.

The candidate himself, wasting no time, complained that the voters had elected him “the next chancellor.”

This is a great success and the night will surely be a long one.– said Olaf Scholz. “Another thing is undoubtedly: many citizens have abandoned the SPD because they want a change of government, and also because they want Olaf Scholz to be named the next chancellor,” he said.

CDU thinks about coalitions

A candidate supported by Angela Merkel believes that his party cannot be satisfied with the election results, but will do everything possible to build a government led by conservatives.

We cannot be happy with the election results.“Armin Laschet told his supporters after the publication of the first forecasts that show that the Conservatives are slightly behind the Social Democrats.

We will do our best to build a leading conservative government because the Germans now need a coalition to modernize our country.“This will probably be the first time we have a government with three partners,” he said.

A little earlier, the second issue of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) was adopted by ARD “bitter loss“.”It hurts”, Dizia Paul Ziemak.

The numbers show that there is the possibility of a future-oriented coalition of the Union (CDU / CSU), the Greens and the FDP. “– said Zemyak, referring to the Jamaican coalition as a possible government solution. Also for the CDU “it will be a long election night“.

Never in the history of the CDU did Angela Merkel fall below the 30 percent threshold. In 2017, he even got 32.8 percent of the vote.

These first results allow one to foresee, according to political scientists, an unexpected resurgence of the SPD.

The results were greeted with applause at the party’s headquarters in Berlin.
