Schiff accuses Barr of lying about the election

In an interview with CNN reporter Dana Bash about “State of the Union,” Schiff was asked about Barr’s statement last week in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that China interferes in elections more than Russia.

“This is just a blatantly false statement by the attorney general. An absolutely false statement, “Schiff said, claiming,” that you can say that Bill Barr is just outright lying to the American people, and that’s tragic, but it’s as simple as that. “

He added: “This is such a disservice to the country that we cannot trust our own attorney general, but obviously Bill Barr is willing to do anything or say anything to help Donald Trump.”

CNN reached out to the Justice Department for comment.

Schiff’s comments follow last week’s news intelligence bulletin issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which warns that Russia is trying to sow doubts about the integrity of the 2020 election by reinforcing false allegations related to mail-order voting, leading to widespread fraud, statements that have been repeatedly advanced by President Donald Trump.

“We believe Russia is likely to continue to escalate criticism of mail-order voting and shift voting in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic to undermine public confidence in the electoral process,” the ballot said.

The news comes a day after an interview with Barr Blitzer, in which he downplayed Russia’s well-documented attempts to help Trump in the presidential election, including this electoral cycle, by pointing the finger at China instead, despite the fact that intelligence agencies did not say. that Beijing is actively intervening in the elections.

“Because I saw intelligence. Here’s what I did, ”Barr said.

However, the bulletin adds to well-documented evidence that Russia is again meddling in the US presidential election, and also makes clear that Moscow is adapting its messages to reinforce false stories in favor of Trump’s campaign.

Last month, a senior security official in an election in the U.S. intelligence community said in a statement: Russia is trying to “vilify” former Vice President Joe Biden’s proposal at the White HouseHowever, for weeks afterwards, Trump and senior members of his administration tried to portray the president as a victim of foreign interference from the intelligence team, in order to suggest that China was trying to harm his campaign.
