Gerard Lopez, the majority shareholder of SAD do Boavista, will buy Bordeaux, the French club said in a statement Tuesday.

In an official announcement posted on the club’s website, Bordeaux said they still need to sign the documents for the purchase by the Luxembourg investor. It should be remembered that the shareholder of SAD de Chess has already invested in other Ligue 1 teams in the past, namely LOSC Lille, and that he also owned Mouscron in Belgium.

Thus, Gerard Lopez is trying to save Bordeaux, which have outstanding debts, after the former US owners left the club, which finished 12th in the French championship last season.

“After lengthy discussions over the past few days, an agreement has finally been reached between King Street, Fortress and Gerard Lopez, confirming the project the latter has undertaken.

The guarantees requested by the Board of Directors meeting at noon were issued in the following hours.

These last elements met the expectations of Rothschild & Co, the Club’s financial advisor and special representative, and prevented liquidation of the Club.

The reopening of FC Girondins de Bordeaux is subject to the completion of the usual contractual documentation, after consultation with the workers’ representative bodies and confirmation by DNCG that the club can continue its prestigious history in Ligue 1, ”the statement said. …
