Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal secured his place in the Grand Slam final this Friday after Germany’s Alexander Zverev withdrew due to injury.
Everything happened in the beginning tie-break from the second set. When world No. 3 and Olympic title holder Sasha Zverev lost his leg and sprained his right ankle.
The German tennis player screamed, fell and was forced to get out of court in a wheelchair. Soon after, he returned on crutches and announced his retirement.
Nadal, the Grand Slam record holder (21) and number 5 in the world rankings, after winning the first part with a score of 7-6 (10-8), was in the lead, registering a 6-6 tie in the second, which had just passed three hours of play.
“[É um momento] very hard and sad. He [Zverev] I played incredible. I know how much it costs to fight to win Grand Slams, but today he was unlucky. The only thing I’m sure of is that he will win not one, but many others. I wish you all the best,” said the Spaniard.
Thirteen-time Roland Garros winner Nadal will face the winner of the match between Norwegian Kasper Ruud, world number eight, and Croatian Marin Cilic, 23rd, in his 14th final in Paris.
