The Republican leadership decided to start Lula’s government in neutrality to avoid exhaustion with President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and with the future government. The intention of the party is to feel the political thermometer to determine whether it will be in opposition or be part of an allied base.

According to Portal iG, the acronym spoke to find out which path they should take from 2023. The first intention was to become available to support Lula’s projects. However, some leaders stressed that the party had chosen a Bolsonarist base, which could split the association.

Aside from worries about losing strength, especially in the 2024 election, Republicans aren’t entirely sure they’ll get the backing of Lula’s government to stay strong. Because of this, it was concluded that the best solution was to remain neutral and grant independence to their parliamentarians.

Understanding that the majority will take part in the Lula base, which will facilitate dialogue with the future government. And fans who follow the signature will have complete freedom to be in opposition and maintain their positions in favor of the incumbent.

The Republican leadership will reconsider its decision only in the second half of next year. If they gain prestige and positions in the next administration of the federal government, the acronym will usually become part of the allied base. However, if Lulu were vehemently rejected by Congress, the party would be in opposition.

Republicans eyeing LP MPs

The PL opposed the future government, saying that Bolsonaro would remain the main leader of the party. Republicans have learned that at least 40 MPs disagree with the decision and are considering leaving the party to join Lula’s base.

The association, chaired by Marcos Pereira, wants to be one of the possible destinations for these parliamentarians. According to Republican leaders, it is important to expand the bench for negotiations on their agenda with the federal government.
