Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 as the next leading edge mobile platform

For connectivity, Qualcomm promises the most advanced mobile platform in the fifth generation mobile network. This is due to the fact that the presence of the Snapdragon X65 5G modem allows you to achieve download speeds that can reach 10 gigabits per second.

In terms of wireless broadband internet, there is the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 which supports speeds up to 3.6Gbps and is compatible with Wi-Fi 6 and 6E technologies. The semiconductor developer claims that this component will provide smoother and smoother applications and games even with multiple devices connected to the same network.

Snapdragon Sight technology brings to this chipset the first 18-bit ISP built for mobile. It is capable of capturing up to 4000 times more data with the camera than its predecessor. In practice, this means improved dynamic range, color and contrast. The capture rate could still be as high as 3.2 gigapixels per second.

The new Snapdragon 8 will also have a separate fourth ISP that will enable the camera to operate on low power consumption. Its intention is to use it for, for example, face recognition when unlocking the screen.

In video, the hardware will allow recording in 8K resolution with HDR and HDR10 + to deliver over a billion colors. Another new feature is a feature called Bokeh Engine, an engine that provides a kind of portrait mode for shooting.

The platform’s artificial intelligence is backed by the seventh generation Qualcomm AI Engine for improved performance and the Qualcomm Hexagon processor, which delivers twice the Tensor Accelerator and double the total memory compared to its predecessor.

In practice, this will allow you to get professional quality images with built-in Leica Leitz Look smart filters, as well as have artificial intelligence based on natural language processing that will serve as a personal assistant and analyze your notifications.

The company has also worked with Sonde Health to accelerate artificial intelligence models that can analyze voice patterns and determine the risk of health problems such as asthma, depression, and even Covid-19.

The new Adreno GPU also promises improvements in gaming, ranging from 30% more graphics rendering capabilities to 25% more power savings over the previous generation.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also comes with features that promise to generate twice as many frames for the same power consumption and give developers more precise control over the performance of their products.

In terms of sound, three technologies are mainly used to improve sound. The integration between Bluetooth 5.2 and Snapdragon Sound is responsible for creating clearer music and voices.

Qualcomm’s aptX Lossless technology delivers lossless CD quality wireless audio. This chipset will be the first to provide LE Audio features such as streaming, stereo recording, and voice feedback in games.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will pioneer Android Ready SE, the new standard for digital car keys and driver’s licenses, and will support iSIM, the carrier’s integrated chip for connecting to a mobile network without the need for a SIM card.

Qualcomm noted that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be adopted by global manufacturers such as Black Shark, Honor, iQOO, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Redmi, Sharp, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi and ZTE. Commercial devices are still expected by the end of 2021.
