Portuguese woman freed by kidnappers in Mozambique – Observer

A 49-year-old woman living in northern Mozambique and a Portuguese citizen who was abducted on April 13 was released this Friday, a source following the case told Lusa.

Victim, spouse of a hospitality businessman, returned to family life in Nampula after 45 days of captivity, release details are unknown, added the same source.

The kidnapping took place in Maputo in the afternoon, after the victim left the Portuguese consulate building on Avenida Mao Tse Tung, one of the main roads in the capital.

As she was driving to her car, she was intercepted by strangers in a passenger car carrying weapons, presumably an AKM47, a police source said at the time.

CTA – Mozambique’s Confederation of Economic Associations, the largest employers’ association in the country, has also repeatedly demanded a tough fight against this type of crime against businessmen and their families.
