Portugal’s extractive sector recognized as Europe’s best sustainable development project – Jornal A Nação

ANIET, representing Portuguese companies in the aggregates sector at European level, has submitted two nominations, led by its partner Domingos da Silva Teixeira, SA, for the most important European sustainability award for the aggregates industry, UEPG. Sustainability Awards 2022.

This year, 67 projects from 15 different countries took part in the competition, and the prizes are awarded by an independent and qualified jury. Portugal excelled in the category “Good Operating Practice: Innovation in Process/Product” by winning the prize for the project “Pedreira de Gouvães: Quarry and Aggregate Plant for Clean Energy Infrastructure: Innovation in Products and Processes”, from DST company.

In a campaign that celebrates companies in the industry and how they successfully integrate social, economic and environmental aspects into their activities, ANIET also competed with the submission of another project by the same company, which received the European Quality Certificate in the Good Environmental Practice category: “Pedreira de Gouvães: a crushed stone quarry and plant designed to provide clean energy infrastructure: environmental initiatives”.

The Guvaensh Pit Research Initiative was designed to produce high quality aggregates for exclusive use in the production of concrete for the Tamega hydroelectric power plant. Domingos da Silva Teixeira, SA was the company responsible for this project, which began in 2016 and is currently in the landscape restoration phase. This means that in less than eight years, all stages of the life of a quarry are tested.

ANIET attended the award ceremony Sustainability Awards 2022 represented by CEO Francelina Pinto, together with DST administrator Joaquim Teixeira and CTO Nuno Faria.

The ceremony was also attended by the representative of the Order of Engineers and President of the College of Geological and Mining Engineering, Joaquim Gois, as well as dignitaries from European organizations, including the Portuguese MEP Carlos Zorrinho and the Vice President. – President of the European Parliament Rainer Wieland.

ANIET is already preparing the next edition, which will take place in 3 years.
