Political fanatic – Agassiz Almeida

From ancient civilizations such as Sumer, Mesopotamia and especially Egypt, political and religious phenomena are intertwined with the deification of the pharaohs. In Greek antiquity, natural and human phenomena led to the creation of the gods of the Sun, Moon, Darkness, Wrath, Beauty, and Treachery, among many others.

Within a few decades, after the end of World War II and the horrendous Holocaust, democratic normality was relatively established. However, there is currently an increase in political fanaticism in countries such as the United States, Hungary, North Korea, Venezuela and Brazil, which characterizes this trend in our country with strong fascist overtones. This fortification was carried out under the slogans of Mussolini in Italy, Franco in Spain and Plinio Salgado and Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil.

All these leaders, dressed as the messiahs of the new age, acted under the slogan “God, motherland and family”, awakening human feelings, religiosity, patriotism and innate affection for the family. Where are the grounds and sources of this phenomenon? Who, then, is a political fanatic who possesses such characteristics as a narrow intellect and low culture, an almost complete lack of vision of the world, and an inability to maintain democratic relations with other social groups?

Isolated, with an oppressive sense of self, on the verge of dementia, something snatches his senses, revealing the darkness surrounding him, and he screams: Mito … Mito …. like an echo of his fanatical self.

Attracted by an “indignant” leader attacking the political system, a hypocritical defender of good morals and a false fight against corruption, revived by Cato, the fanatic is a loyal defender of these “sacred fires”: God, homeland and family, Brazil. above all, God above all, saving the spirit of Nazi phrase Germany above allthat is, Germany first of all.

The swordsman Tupinikim breaks out of the cellars of the Chamber of Deputies after thirty years of aggressive mediocrity. His name is Jair Messias Bolsonaro. Motivated by the idolatry of this jester, the fanatic goes to the troupe of lunatics. There, among them, a commonality of identical points of view, a brotherhood that excites an extremist, because in that political sect there is no dialogue, catchphrases are launched: “The earth is flat”, “PT is over Brazil”, “Vaccines kill” or “Global warming is a lie.”

In this environment where reason does not exist, the fanatic invests himself in the role of an apostle of a new order, deifying the messiah of God, homeland and family. See your opponents as enemies. Aggressive, easily excited. He has little empathy for the pain of others, a teaching bequeathed by his insane guru who said “so what, I’m not a gravedigger” in the face of hundreds of thousands of deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic. .

Unable to understand democratic logic, the fanatic embraces military authoritarianism. O miserable fanatics! They carry the souls of slaves. According to this projection, which unifies the personality of the delusional person, two elements are of great importance. The first of these is dogmatism, the principle on which he maintains the support of his ideas, the true guide to life in family, politics, religion and social relations.

The other element reaches the stage of complex gravity, the phase in which the individual transplants his personality into the demigod Plateau. This is the moment when the fanatic shows the picture of identification with fascism that erupts in these fantasies: “communism is coming”, “Lula is going to confiscate our goods” and “PT is going to close the churches”.

This identification, according to Freud (Mass psychology and analysis I), “is the most primary form of affective connection with the object” and can occur when people identify with each other through their connection with the leader. Confused minds in search of an unlikely redemption. In the case of Brazil, it is an identification with reason, democracy and human rights.
