No. 9 / issue. 5. from a magazine Plateau, on the topic “Lexical level: words and terms. Politico-linguistic problems for Portuguese, a pluricentric language”. OUR Plateau saw its first release in 2012 and has been published digitally ever since. The title of the journal is the same as Plateau or Plateau, the name given to the Praia promontory, on which are located several public buildings and important structures such as the Presidential Palace and Casa Cor de Rosa, the headquarters of the IILP.

The articles included in Platô number 9 are written and detailed versions of submissions during the 2nd Technical Meeting of the Common Scientific and Technical Terminology Project (TCTC) held in Brasilia in November 2021. Among the authors among those who wanted to contribute to this number, in addition to me (at that time President of the Scientific Council), were members of the national commissions, the TCTC central group and members of the Brazilian and Portuguese groups. This issue contains an extensive article by Gladys Almeida and Tanara Kuhn, coordinators of the project at different times, which presents its scope as a pluricentric IILP project and its theoretical and methodological basis. Overall, this volume, sponsored by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contains valuable and up-to-date information on IILP projects, the situation of the Portuguese in Cape Verde, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe, and terminology, with a focus on terminological research methods in Portuguese language and a proposal for their joint management, configured within the framework of the TCTC project (2016-2022), the results of which were not more significant only due to the lack of will or interest of the majority of the countries involved and, consequently, their teams. This neglect is all the more unfortunate because, despite the fact that scientific and technical terminology is fundamental to the international use of the Portuguese language, there has never been a similar initiative or even a serious dialogue on this issue.

“On January 1, it will be Portugal’s turn to finally secure the executive leadership of the IILP. We wish you all the best and look forward to starting the new IILP cycle.”

Genesis and development of “Multicentric projects IILP” – General orthographic vocabulary of the Portuguese language (VOC), Portal for teachers of Portuguese as a foreign language, non-mother tongue (PPPLE) and TCTC (results will be available soon) – presented in the first article n. 9. These projects marked an impressive cycle of growth and assertion of the IILP as a supranational body that promotes and regulates the Portuguese language, especially under Executive Directors Gilvan Oliveira (2010-2014) and Marisa Mendonza (2015-2018), despite all difficulties and limitations in the functioning of the institute, this topic is also touched upon in this issue.

The release of this issue of the magazine Plateau occurred on the day that 12 years ago the VOC project was approved by the Scientific Council of the IILP (Brazilia, 06-08.12.2010), marks the end of the cycle of growth and approval of the aforementioned IILP and the conclusion of the VOC and TCTC, as envisaged by the respective major groups. On January 1, it will be Portugal’s turn to finally secure the executive leadership of the IILP. We wish you all the best and look forward to the start of the new IILP cycle, which is expected to be as fruitful as the one now ending.
