The pianist was going to perform at the Riga Music Festival in Jurmala, at the National Opera of Latvia.

During the festival, musician Martin Engström and executive director Zane Chulkstena stated that the pianist fell on a Riga street during the day and was in a hospital “in serious condition.”

The Portuguese was replaced by the Japanese pianist Mao Fujita, who had performed the day before.
